Everything in your own browser

Calculating contrast, taking a palette from a photo, converting colours, making scales, gradients and shadows, simulating colour blindness, optimising SVGs and writing meta tags: it all happens in your browser, on this device. Whatever you paste or open doesn’t go to a server of ours or anyone else’s. Kleurstaal doesn’t even have a server that could receive it: the site technically allows no outgoing connections.

One exception: fonts from Google Fonts

On the Font pairing page you can have the real fonts shown. Only when you press the button does your browser request them from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Google then sees your IP address and which fonts you request, as with any website that uses Google Fonts. Your own sample text is not sent. Without a click nothing happens, and on no other page may the site reach Google: the site’s security rule only allows it on that page.

What Kleurstaal does fetch

Kleurstaal only loads the parts of a tool when you open that tool, always from its own address, such as SVGO for optimising SVGs. That’s fetching, never sending.

What your browser remembers

Your preferences (light or dark, your language, Reading aids) and, per tool, the last values you typed, such as your two contrast colours, so you can carry on where you were. It stays in your browser and goes nowhere. Start over in the title block clears it for that tool. No photos and no files.

What you send on yourself

Whatever Kleurstaal makes is an ordinary file in your downloads or text on your clipboard. If you send it on, it goes through your email or your storage, and their rules apply.

Technical logs

Like every web server, our hosting provider keeps short technical logs (such as IP address and time of a page visit) to keep the site running safely. They contain no colours, photos or files. We don’t use those logs to track visitors.
