Font pairing

A heading font and a body font that go well together, picked from free Google Fonts. See them with your own text, in Dutch, French, German or English, and take the code with you.

Fonts come from Google Fonts, only when you ask for them

Questions

Good to know

  1. Can I use these fonts for free?

Yes. All fonts are under the SIL Open Font License: free for any use, commercial too, on a website, in print or in a logo.

  2. Why does Kleurstaal load something from Google here?

To show you the real fonts. Your browser only requests them after your click, directly from Google Fonts, and Google sees your IP address when it does. Your text is not sent. Without a click you see an ordinary system font.

  3. Should I use Google Fonts on my site?

No, and for your privacy policy it’s better not to. That is why Kleurstaal gives you self-hosting code by default: put the .woff2 files on your own server, or install them with Fontsource. If you work with Next.js, use next/font: it does that for you.

How it works

Font pairing in three steps

  1. Load the fonts

Only when you press the button does your browser fetch the fonts from Google Fonts. That is the only time Kleurstaal loads anything from outside.

  2. Choose a pair

Twelve pairs, from classic and bookish to technical and playful.

  3. Take the code with you

By default CSS that puts the fonts on your own server, or Fontsource, or a link to Google Fonts if you prefer.
