Colour from an image

Open a photo, logo or screenshot and point. Kleurstaal gives you the colour under your finger or mouse, and keeps the colours you pick in a little list.

Questions

Good to know

  1. Why an average of 3 by 3?

A photo is never flat: neighbouring pixels differ. The average of a small square gives the colour you see, not one odd pixel. For logos and screenshots, choose 1 pixel.

  2. Can I pick a colour outside the picture?

In Chrome and Edge, yes: with Pick from your screen you point at a colour anywhere on your screen, in another window too. Other browsers don’t have it yet; there you work with a screenshot.

  3. Is the colour exact?

It is the colour as your browser draws the picture, in sRGB. A photo with a wider colour profile may come out a touch differently in print or in a design app.

How it works

Colour from an image in three steps

  1. Open your picture

Drop it on the sheet or choose it. It stays on your device.

  2. Point

Click or tap a colour. With the keyboard, move the crosshair with the arrows and pick with Enter.

  3. Take your colours along

Every pick goes into your list. Click a swatch to copy its code or download the whole list.
