Colour converter

Paste a colour in any notation. Kleurstaal recognises it and gives it back as HEX, RGB, HSL, HWB, OKLCH, OKLab and CMYK, with the closest CSS name.

Questions

Good to know

  1. What is OKLCH?

A way of writing colour as lightness, chroma and hue, so that equal steps also look equal to the eye. Modern browsers support it in CSS, and it’s handy for making colour scales and gradients.

  2. Is the CMYK value right for my printer?

Not quite. Kleurstaal uses the simple formula without a print profile, paper or ink limit. For print work, ask your printer for the right values for their profile.

  3. What if my colour falls outside the screen?

Some OKLCH colours can’t be shown on an ordinary screen. Kleurstaal then lowers the chroma until the colour fits, keeps lightness and hue, and tells you so.

How it works

Colour converter in three steps

  1. Paste your colour

    For example #1d3f96, rgb(29 63 150), hsl(223 68% 35%), oklch(39% 0.15 266) or rebeccapurple.

  2. Read every notation

Each line is ready to paste into CSS, a design program or a house style guide.

  3. Copy

With the button next to each line. Transparency comes along in every notation that supports it.
